Dating Advice for Seniors, How What You Need in a Partner Changes

How What You Need in a Partner Changes

Falling head over heels for someone is not just something we do when we are young; research has shown that men and women over the age of 45 experience just as much romantic passion as people under 25.
However, although we may experience all of the same feelings that we used to when it comes to the act of dating – the excitement, the anxiety – the type of person we find ourselves attracted to now may be quite different.
Over the course of our lives, we go through many personal changes. The more we go through in life the more we learn about ourselves; we’re constantly evolving in this way. However, we can sometimes be unaware of just how much we’re changing, as circumstances call for us to remain steady and consistent.
Sometimes it’s not until something major happens that we can see how far we have come as a person. In the event of a spouse or long term partner dying, it can cause the person left behind to feel unsure of themselves; who I am without my husband/wife?
When the grief starts to pass, however, we may feel like looking for love again. But what kind of partner do we want and need now?
Dating Advice for Seniors
It may feel almost like an act of betrayal to admit that the partner you need now is different to your previous partner. Yet this is not true at all; as we get older, our priorities in life change, and that is how it should be.
True connection and companionship become more important than frivolous fun – although these two things don’t have to be mutually exclusive, of course. We also know more about who we are, what we like and don’t like, what we want and need from the world and from other people. All of these elements make dating later on in life quite different to dating as a young adult.
Dating as a senior can seem a bit daunting, but it can also be exciting. It can give you the chance to re-invent yourself; the opportunity to think about what you want and need now, rather than being stuck in how you always used to be.

The most important thing to remember is that plenty of people are in the same situation as you. Dating, at any age, is always full of uncertainty, yet it’s also full of opportunity!
